Kyushu National Museum

Set in the historic city of Dazaifu a short walk from Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Kyushu National Museum is an eye-catching glass structure, with a curved steel roof. It has exhibitions on Kyushu's history and its interaction with Asia and Europe as the gateway for trade to Japan. It's free to visit the interactive Ajippa Gallery on the first floor, where the displays on different cultures are designed for children to enjoy. Tickets are required for special exhibitions and the permanent exhibition on cultural exchange on the fourth floor. There are audio guides in a number of languages, and guided tours with volunteers.
