Kuroshionomori Mangrove Park

黒潮の森マングローブパーク

Amami Oshima is home to several virgin mangrove forests of various generations, from 100-year-old mangroves to much younger shrubs near the coast. Kuroshionomori Mangrove Park offers guided kayaking experiences, where you can be introduced to the various types of mangroves as well as stroll through the forest to see the white "black heron" and the Otus elegans owl. Also, the Ryukyu Ayu, a long rainbow-colored sweetfish, can only be found around Amami Oshima's mangroves.
