Sakura no Baba Josaien This complex of shops, restaurants, and a museum on the history of Kumamoto, is next to Kumamoto Castle. It is designed to look like a traditional walled castle town. The shops offer a selection of traditional sweets, crafts, souvenirs, and local produce. There are several restaurants in the complex serving Kumamoto specialties and family favorites. On the main stage, there are regular free cultural shows, and you can often see a band of roving "samurai", who are happy to pose for photos. Stop off at the museum, Wakuwaku-za, to learn more about Kumamoto Castle and the surrounding area, through interactive displays and VR experiences.
