Hitoyoshi Craft Park
人吉クラフトパーク石野公園
This family-friendly park near Hitoyoshi Station celebrates the traditional crafts of Hitoyoshi and Kuma, the two southernmost districts of Kumamoto. There are plenty of hands-on activities including workshops in glass work, blacksmithing, ceramics and painting. A traditional teahouse offers a tea ceremony experience. Shochukan, the onsite brewery, offers visitors the chance to try Kuma Shochu, the local rice-based spirit, which has been made in the area for around 500 years. Next to the craft park, there is a campsite with BBQ facilities.
Note: The blacksmithing experience is currently not being offered; the facility will announce on its website when it is resumed.
