Kikaijima Island

Kikaijima Island, surrounded by a clear turqoise sea, is a remote island in Kagoshima Prefecture, located approximately 25 km east of Amami Oshima Island. This unusual island was formed by the uplift of coral reefs and continues to rise by an average of about 2 mm per year, attracting worldwide attention for its unique geology. On the island, visitors can enjoy beautiful beaches and the unique tropical scenery of coral reef stone walls and sugar cane fields. The island's mild temperatures throughout the year provide an idyllic scene, with many butterflies flitting about in search of tropical flowers such as hibiscus and bougainvillea.
