Hombo Shuzo - Mars Tsunuki Distillery

Hombo Shuzo, founded in Tsunuki, Kagoshima in 1872, carries on a legacy of distilling expertise at their Tsunuki Distillery. After obtaining a whisky license in 1949, production moved to their distilleries in Yamanashi and Nagano, but returned to its birthplace in 2016. The high variance in temperature and pristine spring water in Tsunuki contribute to its award-winning whiskies.
The interior of the distillery's historic distillation tower showcases Hombo Shuzo's journey through panels and exhibits. Tours (reservations required) offer a close-up look at the stills and other whisky-making equipment and stone barrel warehouses.
Hojo, the former family residence built in 1933, houses a bar serving exclusive Mars whiskies in a vintage, luxurious setting. Guests can also browse the shop and enjoy the tranquil Japanese garden.
