Daikouzenji Temple

This temple in Kiyama is so well known for its spectacular displays of azaleas in late spring, that it is known as The Azalea Temple". The hills around the back of the main hall are blanketed in 50,000 colorful azaleas from mid-April to early May. It is also a famous spot to enjoy autumn leaves, which are illuminated in the evenings around mid-late November. Inside the temple there are a number of carvings, including fierce shitenno warriors and the eleven-faced Avalokitesvara (Kannon) bodhisattva of compassion, which is only shown to the public once every 12 years.
