Kyushu Olle Treking Course (Okubungo Course)

九州オルレトレッキングコース 奥豊後コース

The Kyushu Olle Oku Bungo course can be walked at a relaxed pace in about half a day (4 to 5 hours) with little elevation gain (less than 100 meters). You can start the course at Asaji Station or Bungo-Taketa Station.

Along the way, visitors can stop at an historic villa once owned by the patriarch of the Nakagawa clan (who ruled the vast Oka domain during the Edo period from 1603 to 1867), Yujaku Park famous for its superb autumn leaf foliage, and Japan's largest Magaibutsu (a Buddha figure carved into a rock face) at a height of 12 meters. You can also see the stone walls created by the eruption of Mt Aso and the ruins of Oka Castle on a highland plateau 325 meters above sea level. At Bungo-Taketa Station, you can enjoy the relaxing onsen waters of Taketa Onsen Hanamizuki.
