Futago-ji Temple

両子寺 六郷満山

Futago-ji Temple is located on the hillside of Mt Futago and was built in 718 as the center of ancient worship by devotees of Rokugo Manzan. Over 1,300 years ago in this remote mountainous area, the Buddhist monk Nimon laid the foundation for the Rokugo Manzan approach and ignited a tradition whereby monks would trek through the peninsula's mountains in prayer, chant and meditation.

At the entrance to Futago-ji, you will see two commanding-looking Nio statues, the largest you'll find in the region. From there, it's only a 10-minute walk up a flight of steps to the main temple complex.
